New Delhi: Dangerous potholes have come up at many places on the footpaths above the drains in Dwarka area. In many places, the main holes are open, which not only poses a problem but also a danger to the passers-by. Even after complaining about it several times, no action was taken by the concerned department, which resulted in the death of a woman.
The matter is of Wednesday evening, when a woman was walking on the footpath after watching Ravan Dahan in Dwarka’s Mela Ground and returning back to her house located in Dwarka Sector 14. But during this she died after falling in an open drain in Sector 13 (Woman dies after falling in drain Dwarka). However, after the fall of the woman, the people present there informed the police, where the police reached, after searching in the drain, got her out and took her to the hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.
The woman has been identified as 60-year-old Sudha Devi, a resident of Bharat Vihar. The police officer said that at around 7 pm on Wednesday, the police had received information from Dwarka Sector 13 area that an elderly woman had fallen into the drain flowing in front of Reliance Fras. She was going through the pavement built on the drain, when she fell into the open drain. The place was very dark due to lack of light and trees nearby, due to which the woman could not see the open drain.
Neelam Sharma, a resident of Dwarka Sector 12 and a social worker, told that she was also passing by on Wednesday night, when she saw the crowd, she came to know about the fall of a woman after asking people. Expressing anger over the departmental negligence, he said that if the PWD had paid attention to it, then this tragic accident would not have happened.
Calling it negligence and departmental indifference, he said that people do not even know in which department it comes and after going round the MCD, DDA and PWD, even when the complaint reaches the right department, the department’s action on it. No action was taken from the side. There are many such pits in many sectors of Dwarka, due to which people always fall prey to accidents due to lack of attention.
