Visakhapatnam Airport Violence: 61 Jsp Workers Released On Bail

Visakhapatnam airport violence: 61 JSP workers released on bail (update in progress)

A city court has granted bail to 61 Jana Sena Party (JSP) activists arrested for the October 15 attack on ministers and others at the Visakhapatnam airport. The police produced 70 arrested activists before the Eighth Metropolitan Magistrate late on Sunday night. Of them, 61 were granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 10,000.

The magistrate sent the remaining nine accused to judicial custody till October 28. However, the section 307 (attempt to murder) registered against him was changed to 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means).

A member of the JSP’s legal team said that the magistrate found fault with the procedure followed by the police and replaced section 307 with 326.

Police had registered a case against a total of 92 JSP leaders and workers in connection with the attack. Of these, 70 were arrested.

The JSP, led by actor-politician Pawan Kalyan, alleged that the police kept on shifting the arrested activists from one police station to another on Saturday night and it was only on Sunday evening that the legal team came to know that they would be produced before a magistrate.

Tourism Minister R.K. Roja and other leaders of the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) were attacked by a mob at the airport on Saturday evening. The incident took place when the YSRCP leader was returning from Visakhapatnam after participating in the ‘Visakha Garjana’ rally organized by the ruling party in support of the three state capitals. Pawan Kalyan was arriving in the city to address the JSP program ‘Jan Vani’.

Police registered two separate cases for attacks on vehicles of YSRCP leaders as well as police personnel. The cases were registered under various sections of the IPC on the complaint of Minister Roja’s personal assistant M. Dilip Kumar.

The incident has created tension in the area. Pawan Kalyan, who arrived at the hotel for a rally from the airport, was later stopped from addressing any gathering and rally. Kalyan stayed at the hotel, while a large number of his party workers and fans gathered outside.

The JSP leader has condemned the harsh behavior of the police and demanded the immediate release of all JSP leaders and workers. He denied involvement of JSP in the incident at the airport.

Pawan Kalyan blamed the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP government for the incident. Describing the YSRCP as a symbol of criminalization of politics, the actor said he is ready to face trial and even go to jail in his fight against criminalization of politics.
