Aimchess Rapid Online Chess Tournament : D Gukesh, Arjun Arigesi And Vidit Lose In Quarterfinals

D Gukesh, Arjun Arigesi and Vidit Santosh Gujrathi have lost in the quarterfinals of the Aimchess Rapid online chess tournament. Gukesh, who defeated world champion Magnus Carlsen, was defeated by Richard Repert.

Chennai: Indian chess players were defeated in the Aimchess Rapid online chess tournament. The Indian challenge ended in the quarterfinals with the loss of D Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi and Vidit Santosh Gujarati. Gukesh, who had defeated world champion Magnus Carlsen in the opening leg, lost 1.5–2.5 to Richard Repert. In the four-game match, Gukesh took the lead by winning the second game but he could not maintain the lead.

With a win in 32 moves in the second game, 16-year-old Gukesh took a 1.5-0.5 lead while the first was a draw. Repert then came back to level the score by winning the third game in 55 moves and then won the fourth match and won the match. Arigessi, who was one of the players to beat Kalerson in the opening round, lost 0.5-2.5 in the quarter-finals against the world number one.

Despite being on the verge of defeat in the first game, Carlsen, who managed to draw the game, played as expected in the next two games, winning and entering the semi-finals. Vidit also lost 0.5-2.5 in a one-sided match against Poland’s Yan Christoph Duda. Gukesh and Arigesi had finished second and fourth respectively in the preliminary round.

The Amches Rapid Tournament is a part of the Meltwater Champions Tour and a total of 16 players, including five players from India, are taking part.
