Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur has been ruled out of the Women’s Big Bash League.
Melbourne : Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur has been ruled out of the Women’s Big Bash League due to a back injury. Melbourne Renegades general manager James Rosengarten said, “Harmanpreet was fantastic for us last year and we wanted to see her with our team this season but unfortunately she has been ruled out due to injury.”
Indian captain Harmanpreet was only to be ruled out of the first two matches as she was involved in India’s seventh Asia Cup win. Renegades coach Simon Helmott expected Harmanpreet to be available for the full season after the Asia Cup final. He had also said that his workload in Australia would be taken care of.
Last week, England batsman Eve Jones was added to the team as his replacement. “Eve will be with our team at least for the next few matches while we work out our best strategy for the rest of the tournament,” Rosengarten said. Harmanpreet was the ‘Player of the Tournament’ last season, scoring 406 runs at a strike rate of 130.96 and taking 15 wickets in 13 matches.
In the Challenger match, the Renegades had to face defeat at the hands of the Adelaide Strikers. In the current season, the team has registered one win in its first two matches. Earlier, Indian vice-captain Smriti Mandhana withdrew from the competition citing her workload management.
