Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the general budget for the upcoming financial year 2023-24. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has termed it as inflation-increasing budget. Said that step-motherly treatment has been done to the people of Delhi in this budget. No relief from inflation has been given in the budget.
New Delhi: The Chief Minister of Delhi has given a strong reaction to the general budget presented by the Union Finance Minister in the Parliament. He has once again alleged that like before, the Center has again meted out step-motherly treatment to Delhi. Kejriwal has tweeted, “Step-motherly treatment with the people of Delhi again. Last year, the people of Delhi paid more than 1.75 lakh crore income tax. Out of that only 325 crores were given for the development of Delhi. This is with the people of Delhi. Gross injustice.”
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said that there is no relief from inflation in this budget. On the contrary, inflation will increase. There is no concrete plan to remove unemployment. It is unfortunate to reduce the education budget from 2.64 per cent to 2.5 per cent. Reducing the health budget from 2.2 percent to 1.98 percent is harmful. This time the Delhi government had high hopes from the Union Budget, but it was disappointed. The Aam Aadmi Party-ruled Delhi government believes that till now step-motherly treatment has been meted out to the two crore population of Delhi. Whereas, Delhi has been getting only Rs 325 crore in the budget. This time there would be an increase in the amount received from central taxes, but it did not happen. While the people of Delhi pay a tax of Rs 1.75 lakh crore to the central government.
In the meeting with the Finance Ministers of all the States and Union Territories on the budget, Delhi Finance Minister Manish Sisodia had also demanded the central government to provide adequate funds to Delhi in the budget. Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Sisodia says that the central government did not increase even one rupee last year. Didn’t give a single rupee to MCD. At the same time, two lakh crores were given for other municipal corporations of the country. This time the Municipal Corporation will work in a new format. The government had reduced the additional central assistance to zero last year to speed up various projects. This time the figures of how much has been received under this item are not clear. The G20 summit is to be held, in this matter the Delhi government also has to work on many schemes.
